Holding a Life In Your Hand:  Paediatric Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children

During this rare opportunity to enter the SickKids operating rooms, learn how SickKids uses VR technology to lessen anxiety in children about to undergo surgery, and simulate the experience of performing surgery in this hands-on demonstration and talk by Dr. Gregory Borschel, Surgeon, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Dr. Clyde Matava, Anesthesiologist at SickKids. SickKids is one of the top children’s hospitals in the world and performs more surgeries than any other paediatric hospital in Canada.

Paediatric surgery is constantly evolving as innovative techniques and equipment, such as image-guided technology,  are developed. Over the next decade, SickKids will be the catalyst for transformational change in paediatric healthcare access, quality and effectiveness, here and around the world. In this session, Dr. Borschel and Dr. Matava will outline the vision for SickKids future in surgical innovation encompassing best practices and technology, and will allow participants to try out their surgical skills.
